Apartments near the canal in the district of Hamburg-Neustadt - Furnished apartments from City-Wohnen

The Hamburg-Neustadt district is not a purely residential area. This centrally-located district offers a mix of cultural monuments, office buildings, shopping areas, places to eat, and residential streets. With a little luck, you can find a temporary furnished apartment here. Then you’ll definitely be at the center of everything Hamburg has to offer! The very popular Portuguese quarter has a lot of cafés and restaurants serving up delicious food and drinks. There is window-shopping galore along the many shopping streets. You have your choice of museums to visit in this downtown location, but you can also reach businesses and government offices quickly. Nothing is far away. What else could one ask for?

The neighborhood is especially popular due to its many different bodies of water such as the harbor, the network of canals, and the lovely ponds in Planten un Blomen park. Apartments are very popular in this lively area, so rental prices are generally high.

Popular residential areas in the midst of a busy bar scene are located around the Großneumarkt. It is fun to live in the Portuguese quarter, around the Ditmar-Koel-Straße with beautiful old buildings, numerous restaurants and unique shops. There are also historical Wilhelminian buildings and modern buildings around the Michel.

Architecture & Shopping in Hamburg-Neustadt

The Colonnaden are located between Jungfernstieg and Esplanade. This landmark building group with arcades is in neo-renaissance style. Shops offering fine goods and restaurants line the street. It is a beautiful place with historic flair. Hamburg has haute couture, large fashion chains, and the Alsterhaus department store. With the exception of a few of the less inexpensive chains, shopping here has a luxury price tag. Does your taste tend to more alternative shops? Head over to the Portuguese quarter.

Culture and dining out

If you need some time in the park, green spaces abound in the Wallanlagen: a huge park that is like a green belt around downtown Hamburg. There are botanical gardens, an outdoor skating rink, fountains, a number of wonderful playgrounds, the rose garden, and so much more. Nature fans will flourish in Hamburg’s green city. If water is your thing, go kayaking on the Alster lake or take a walk along the banks along the Außenalster and canals. The Elbe River is only a few minutes away from the Neustadt. In the Portuguese Quarter and on Großneumarkt, all kinds of cafés, pubs and restaurants provide perfect culinary treats.
