Wencke und Partner - History of City-Wohnen Hamburg

Many people will know us well as "Wencke und Partner". As of January 2007 we have changed our name to "City-Wohnen Immobilien und Beratung in Hamburg" and you will find us as partners of "City-Wohnen Immobilien und Beratung GmbH in Berlin".

The Students - A litte bit of history

We founded our company in 1987 with the motto “live and let live” (“wohnen und wohnen lassen”). In the beginning it was simply called “Die Mitwohnzentrale”, but it was later incorporated under the name “Wencke und Partner”. Starting point in the 80s was flat sharing for the academic, alternative student scene. Mostly "Wencke und Partner" dealt with furnished rooms for short term lease, but unfurnished ones that could be rented indefinitely were also available. Furnished flats or apartments were rare in the beginning.

From students to company employees

The student scene of the 80s changed. The students of former days had become company employees. Wencke und Partner and our client base changed. The idea “Mitwohnzentrale” was by now well established and the alternative student days, more and more a thing of the past. Demand had changed fundamentally, more and more people were no longer looking for rooms, but for modern well furnished apartments.

The Companies

By now Companies started to catch on to the idea that "Wencke und Partner" was no longer providing simple student rooming, but short term flats and apartments of good standard. A perfect solution when accommodation was needed for employees, who were in Hamburg for a certain time. We provided a cost effective alternative to hotels. Furthermore many people prefer the comfort and charm of staying in a real home instead of the generic neutrality of a hotel room.

The Professionals

Having more and more companies as regular customers, "Wencke und Partner" in turn attracted a growing number of proprietors of large, well appointed apartment houses, offering short term furnished leases at fair prices.

Next step

We have been, and are, growing and evolving in a logical progression. The next step has already been taken. Together with the large agency "City-Mitwohnzentrale GmbH Berlin", we are now able to offer an even higher standard of service to our customers. Jointly we offer professional solutions for short term housing needs in both Hamburg and Berlin as "City-Wohnen Deutschland GmbH".

The Homepage

During the 80s we started out with simple file cards and the now legendary Commodore 64. The file cards were actually used as one did not know how much one could or should rely on a computer. What can we say? Everyone knows how incredibly fast computing technology has evolved. At this point we are very proud to be able to present a fresh, user friendly website. A homepage that will help our customers find what they are looking for even more quickly and easily.

Associations

"Wencke und Partner" (City-Wohnen Hamburg) had chair for over 16 years and is member of REM – Ring Europäischer Mitwohnzentralen (Association of European Interim Housing Agencies). In addition City Wohnen Deutschland is a founding member of the quality network for temporary housing: "Zeitwohnwerk" wich includes agencies in Berlin, Hamburg, Duisburg, Cologne, Hanover, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Frankfurt.
